About this surah
Quraysh is named after the tribe who lived in Makkah and looked after the Kabah. The surah mentions their winter and summer trading journeys, and reminds them to worship the Lord of this House who fed them when they were hungry and made them safe when they were afraid. It teaches us to thank Allah for our food and our safety, which are blessings we use every day.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ(1)
For the security of Quraish.
إِۦلَٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ(2)
Their security during winter and summer journeys.
فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ(3)
Let them worship the Lord of this House.
ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍۢ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ(4)
Who has fed them against hunger, and has secured them against fear.
