About this surah
Al-Fil means The Elephant. It tells the story of an army that came with elephants to destroy the Kabah in the year the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was born. Allah sent flocks of birds carrying small stones, and the army was made like eaten straw. It shows children that Allah protects His house and that no power on earth can beat His plan.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ(1)
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?
أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍۢ(2)
Did He not make their plan go wrong?
وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ(3)
He sent against them swarms of birds.
تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍۢ مِّن سِجِّيلٍۢ(4)
Throwing at them rocks of baked clay.
فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍۢ مَّأْكُولٍۭ(5)
Leaving them like chewed-up leaves.
