About this surah
Al-Ma'un means Small Kindnesses. It describes a person who pushes the orphan away and does not encourage feeding the poor, and warns those who are careless about their prayer or who show off. The surah ends by mentioning people who refuse even small acts of help. It teaches children that real faith shows up in how we treat others, not only in what we say.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ(1)
Have you considered him who denies the religion?
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ(2)
It is he who mistreats the orphan.
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ(3)
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ(4)
So woe to those who pray.
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ(5)
Those who are heedless of their prayers.
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ(6)
Those who put on the appearance.
وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ(7)
And withhold the assistance.
