About this surah
Al-Kawthar means Abundance. With only three ayahs it is one of the shortest surahs in the Quran. Allah tells the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, that He has given him abundant good, and asks him to pray to his Lord and to sacrifice. It was a comfort to the Prophet when someone insulted him. Many children learn this surah first because it is so short and sweet.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ(1)
We have given you plenty.
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنْحَرْ(2)
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ(3)
He who hates you is the loser.
