About this surah
At-Takathur means Competing for More. It warns about being so busy piling up things and comparing them with others that we forget what really matters. The surah says this distraction lasts until people reach their graves. It then reminds us that we will be asked about the blessings we enjoyed. It is a good surah for learning gratitude instead of always wanting more toys.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ(1)
Abundance distracts you.
حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ(2)
Until you visit the graveyards.
كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ(3)
Indeed, you will know.
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ(4)
Certainly, you will know.
كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ(5)
If you knew with knowledge of certainty.
لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ(6)
You would see the Inferno.
ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ(7)
Then you will see it with the eye of certainty.
ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ(8)
Then, on that Day, you will be questioned about the Bliss.
