About this surah
Al-'Asr means Time. It has only three ayahs, so it is one of the easiest surahs to memorise. It swears by time and says that human beings are at a loss, except those who believe, do good deeds, and encourage one another to truth and to patience. Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, would recite it to each other before parting.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلْعَصْرِ(1)
By time.
إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ(2)
The human being is in loss.
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ(3)
Except those who believe, and do good works, and encourage truth, and recommend patience.
