About this surah
Al-Falaq means The Daybreak. It is one of the two surahs of protection. In it we ask Allah, the Lord of the daybreak, to keep us safe from the harm of what He created, from the dark night, from harmful magic and from an envious person when he envies. Many families recite it with An-Nas in the morning, in the evening and before sleeping.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْفَلَقِ(1)
Say, “I take refuge with the Lord of Daybreak.
مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ(2)
From the evil of what He created.
وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ(3)
And from the evil of the darkness as it gathers.
وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِى ٱلْعُقَدِ(4)
And from the evil of those who practice sorcery.
وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ(5)
And from the evil of an envious when he envies.”
