About this surah
Az-Zalzalah means The Earthquake. In only eight ayahs it describes the earth shaking with its greatest shaking and giving up all it carries, and telling its news on that Day. The famous ending says that whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of bad will see it too. Children remember it because even tiny actions count.
Arabic and meaning
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَا(1)
When the earth is shaken with its quake.
وَأَخْرَجَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ أَثْقَالَهَا(2)
And the earth brings out its loads.
وَقَالَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا(3)
And man says, “What is the matter with it?”
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ تُحَدِّثُ أَخْبَارَهَا(4)
On that Day, it will tell its tales.
بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوْحَىٰ لَهَا(5)
For your Lord will have inspired it.
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَصْدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشْتَاتًۭا لِّيُرَوْا۟ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ(6)
On that Day, the people will emerge in droves, to be shown their works.
فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًۭا يَرَهُۥ(7)
Whoever has done an atom's weight of good will see it.
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍۢ شَرًّۭا يَرَهُۥ(8)
And whoever has done an atom's weight of evil will see it.
